Physical Education is a popular and highly successful subject at Havant Academy with 100% of last year’s Key Stage 4 option cohort achieving A*-C equivalent in the BTEC Sport course.

Within the department there are a range of specialisms which help to ensure high quality delivery in Physical Education across a range of different sports and activities.

The ethos of the department is that every child should have the opportunity to develop a range of different physical skills through participation in a whole array of sports and activities.

Skills, Knowledge, Understanding/Topics covered:

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)

In Key Stage 3 students cover a wide range of different activities including;

•             Netball
•             Rounders
•             Rugby
•             Smart Moves
•             Swimming and Life Saving
•             Tag Rugby

All students have lessons in a range of activities in Years 7, 8 and 9 to enable them to have a wide variety of different experiences within Physical Education.

 

Key Stage 4 (Years 10+11)

 

In Year 10+11, every student has two lessons of Physical Education each week. Students have the ability to select activities which they would like to study to ensure that they would like to study. Some of these will be developing skills and activities which they acquired in Key Stage 3 but there is also the opportunity to try new activities, such as Water Polo and Zumba.

 

At Key Stage 4 students have the opportunity to study the BTEC First Certificate in Sport and the BTEC First Certificate in Performing Arts (Dance).

 

In the BTEC Sport students cover a variety of topics including fitness and training methods, practical sport, sports psychology and sports leadership.

 

In the BTEC Performing Arts (Dance) the students cover a range of different dance styles including contemporary, jazz, street and lindy hop.

Trips

Within PE there are opportunities to represent the Academy at various sporting fixtures and tournaments, as well as additional visits for students who have shown excellent commitment to clubs and their studies.
