Catering

Catering is a subject that interests and excites a lot of students at Havant Academy. It requires students to use a wide variety of skills that branch off from their studies in other areas of Design Technology, students work both theoretically and practically to cook a range of dishes that vary in skills level. Catering encourages students to be creative, it allows individuals to make independent decisions and also allows students to experiment and try new things. Throughout Key Stage 3 students learn the basics. This involves; developing their food knowledge using the Eat Well Guide, understanding kitchen health and safety requirements and learning basic cooking skills. Into Key Stage 4 students build on all the skills and knowledge taught in Key Stage 3 and are also introduced to the world of Hospitality. The hospitality industry links both back of house (preparation and cooking) with front of house (greeting, serving and hosting) and allows students to identify a huge range of job opportunities for when they progress into further education upon leaving the Academy.

Key Stage 3 work on a termly rotation.
