World Book Day

As you may well be aware, it is World Book Day on Thursday, 7th March.  This is a worldwide event, with over one hundred countries taking part.  It is an opportunity to celebrate all things to do with reading!

As part of this celebration, we will be organising a wide range of events throughout the day. In order to raise money for our library, each student has the opportunity to attend in non-uniform (at a cost of £1 per student) or in fancy-dress as a fictional character (at a cost of 50p per student). If students do not wish to take part in either of these options they are required to be in full school uniform as usual (obviously with no cost involved). All monies raised will be used directly to purchase books for the children of Havant Academy. There will be prize for the best dressed student!

We have managed to persuade a well-known author to visit and conduct some writing workshops with Years 7, 8 & 9 on the day. Her name is Sufiya Ahmed.  She will be delivering a series of talks for our students as well as writing workshops for selected students. Sufiya will also be selling and signing her best-selling novel Secrets of the Henna Girl for the discounted price of £5 per book should any students wish to purchase one.

Students will also be issued with a £1 Book Token on Thursday. This can be exchanged in WH Smith or Waterstone’s for a free book.  Alternatively, the World Book Day £1 Book Token is redeemable against any book or audio book worth £2.99 or more in all bookshops participating in the initiative. You can find these online.

We would be immensely grateful of any support that you could offer by encouraging your child to become involved in some of the fund raising activities during the week.

Thank you for any support you can offer.
