World Book Day 2026
World Book Day 2026 was a fantastic celebration of stories, imagination and creativity across our school. The day was packed with activities that brought books to life and encouraged everyone to explore the many different ways we can enjoy reading.
Throughout the day staff shared their love of books by reading extracts and quotes from their favourite titles as well as talking about their own reading habits. Students flexed their literary knowledge with a book quiz and Guess the Character challenge. They also put their Shakespearean knowledge to the test in Shakespeare or Fakespeare, deciding whether famous quotations were written by The Bard or invented. Students’ could express their creativity by writing a 100-word Stranger Saga or learning how to design a book cover.
As always, staff and students made an outstanding effort with their costumes. The wide range of characters walking around the school was hugely entertaining and sparked plenty of conversations about book recommendations and favourite stories.
With 2026 being the National Year of Reading our celebration of books will continue long after World Book Day. We will be championing all forms of reading, including audiobooks, magazines, blogs, non-fiction, news articles, graphic novels because If you’re into it, read into it.
If your child has not yet collected their free World Book Day book, don’t forget that Havant Academy is a distribution hub for the whole community. We have plenty of World Book Day books available as well as spare tokens if yours has been misplaced. Please contact the school or check our World Book Day webpage for more details.
As part of our commitment to promoting reading, we are inviting parents and their young children to tea and coffee mornings in our school library every Tuesday. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and our Reading in the Community webpage for more information.
